About Billie Eilish

A breakout phenomenon and star overnight at just 13 years old, Billie Eilish has become an iconic artist and voice for a generation. Full name Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell and her brother Finneas Baird O’Connell, who wrote and produced the track, uploaded their first song “Ocean Eyes” to SoundCloud just so that Billie’s dance teacher could give it a listen. Much to their surprise, the song was posted on music blogs and circulated to over a thousand people that first night. This might not seem like much compared to the billions of streams Billie has now, but at the time it was a big deal. That next morning, Billie’s now manager, Danny Ruckasin, reached out to FINNEAS expressing how impressed he was by the track and offered to help their music careers. FINNEAS knew Danny already from talks about his own band, for which he originally wrote “Ocean Eyes” but thought that it better suited his sister’s voice. Despite their youth, making music together was already nothing new to siblings Billie and FINNEAS. They had an eclectic and creativity-centric upbringing being homeschooled together by their parents who were both musicians and encouraged their interest in this area intensely. The natural talent of Billie’s gifted voice combined with constantly singing since a child with her family amounted to the incredible vocals her millions of fans now obsess over. In the summer of 2016 Billie signed with Darkroom Records, a startup label founded under Interscope records two years prior by Justin Lubliner, the 24 year old aspirant at the time who is now recognized for being a young industry savant. Billie re-released “Ocean Eyes” later that year and then began a steady stream of releases continuing with her EP dont smile at me, with singles “bellyache” and “COPYCAT”. Her music pushes the pop edge with creative vocal effects, electronic beats and a courage to confront difficult emotions surrounding relationships, party culture and fame at a young age. The debut EP hit number 14 on the Billboard 200 in January 2019 and Billie became the youngest artist to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify. March of 2019 saw the arrival of Eilish’s first full-length album WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? which included her first megahit, “bad guy” as well as popular tracks “when the party’s over” and “bury a friend”. This album took a deeper turn toward the dark with hauntingly hypnotic vocals and gloomy beats to dejected song themes. Her next original release would come with single “everything i wanted” a song written about a dream she had where she committed suicide. The track offers her similar style of interesting vocal effects, electronic rhythm and deeply personal lyricism. 2019 saw Billie begin her impressive list of accolades including wins from the American Music Awards, MTV Video Awards and Billboard’s Woman of the Year award. Not stopping there, at the beginning of 2020 she became the first woman and only the second artist ever to win all “big four” Grammy categories, Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist, as well as Best Pop Vocal Album. In 2020 Billie would also get the honor of writing “No Time To Die” for the James Bond film of the same name, joining the ranks of iconic theme songs of the franchise. Her next big release would be her second album Happier Than Ever featuring the hit title track as well as “Lost Cause”, “Therefore I Am”, “NDA” and “Your Power”. The title track has a familiar yet refreshingly new style which impresses as a modern torch tune turns epic pop-rock ballad telling the story of her love scorned. Her latest two releases took an instrumental acoustic turn with singles “TV” and “The 30th”. She has teased that she’s working on an upcoming third album with FINNEAS. The siblings often perform together and have had memorable performances at famous Coachella and Glastonbury festivals. Just turning U.S. legal drinking age, Billie is young enough to say that her best days are likely still ahead of her as her fans support her growth and creative expression into the future. Billie Eilish and her brother FINNEAS will already be remembered as pop music pioneers and it still feels like they’re only getting started.
